Boho Chic

Floppy hats, headbands, fringe...what decade does that bring to mind? Originally a favorite of the '60's and '70's generation, it serves an interesting fashion niche today. Updated and enlivened, it's Boho Chic!

The Bohemian look encompasses eclectic style with its patterned flowing skirts, headbands atop braids or disheveled hair , hippie boots and sandals, and layered bracelets and necklaces.

Clothing retails including Free People and People Outfitters offer modern versions of this diverse style. Not to be outdone by the clothiers, jewelry designers put forth an array of choices.

Alex and Ani has a Vintage 66 collection to start off. There is also a variety of feather bangles prevalent in this free spirited look.

An Italian design from Mi Moneda uses interchangeable monedas (coins), frames, and pendants that can be worn in multiples for a great layered jewelry approach.

Don't be afraid to try different combinations - you really can't get it wrong if it feels right! It's all a part of Boho Chic!

Turquoise Jewelry Care

Turquoise comes to us from the ancient world, prized among the Persian and Native American civilizations. This gemstone is mined in only a few areas of the world such as the Middle East and the American Southwest.

Varying in color from shades of blue to hues of green, this gemstone is very desirable in today's world of jewelry.

Popularity peaked in the 1970's and is again enjoying a resurgence. Mixing metals such as gold or sterling silver with the stones creates stunning effects.

Turquoise is very soft so take care of your jewelry made with it to prevent it from scratches. Only use water to clean it as the gemstone is porous and will absorb oils and cleaners.

Jewelry made with turquoise and silver or gold looks great with a tan in the summer, but it's not suggested to wear it at the beach! Wait until later when you're going out to dinner and bask in the glow of turquoise and tan!
Turquoise remains an extremely important gemstone among Native Americans, and is by far the most popular gemstone in that culture. - See more at: http://www.minerals.net/gemstone/turquoise_gemstone.aspx#sthash.UM9Rz10Q.dpuf

Wrap It Up!

inhonorofdesign.blogspot.com

With all the cold weather we've had here in New York, the focus has been on staying warm when we go out. Of course, down coats are fabulous but for the the fashion forward, consider wraps.

Warm woolens and knits can be wrapped around bodies, heads, and necks.

And when you get inside, you can still be wrapped in one of our favorites - wrap bracelets! You know Alex and Ani for sure - infinity, feather, and color wrap bracelets are some popular ones.

One of the newer additions to the wrap bracelet grouping is Endless Jewelry. Cool and bright colors in leather bracelets come in single, double, and triple wraps. Add charms as you like from a huge variety for your own unique wrapping.

So stay warm and in style this winter in wraps!
